It is a small 58 site RV park located at exit #67 off the I-55 highway. And it is located halfway between St. Louis, MO and Memphis, TN.
What a joy it was to pull into this small park after a long day on the road. It was very neat, clean and easy to navigate.
Checking in at the front desk, we met a nice gentleman who was very helpful. And he took us right to our campsite.
The campsite itself was so nice because it was right near the front of the park. It was a wonderful pull-through that even allowed us to keep our car attached.
So what a treat that was after a very wearing drive. And talk about level…it was wonderful. We didn’t even need to put our jacks down for the night.
There are also full hook ups, including 50 amp service at all sites. So we had everything we needed.
Our host directed us in and parked our rig in such a way that we had no issues with our slides being extended. Great customer service. Thanks so much!!!
Hinton RV Park Internet Connectivity
How about the internet???? Well, they offer free wifi throughout the park. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an opportunity to use it because we use our own hotspot for internet connectivity.
We have AT&T and T-Mobile data plans and we had no trouble hooking up to both of them. And our cell phone service through T-Mobile worked great too.
Nearby Shopping And Restaurants
However, there is only one place to go and pick up groceries nearby called Food Giant. And if you are going to stay just a night or two it probably would not be necessary. But it is available if you need it.
Evidently this family run business also owns a restaurant nearby called Lamberts Cafe, “Home of the Throwed Rolls”.
It gets very high reviews and they will actually pick you up and take you down there and bring you back.
This is great if you don’t want to unhook or have a Class A, B, or C that you drive without a towed vehicle.
Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to check this place out as we only stayed one night and used our own food. But it might be something we do the next time if we stay here again.
Our Hinton RV Park Rating
So how would we rate this RV Campground? We would give it a 5 star rating. And here are our reasons why:
It’s very close to the road and very clean and well taken care of. Also, the laundry room and bath house are very clean.
And all of the park staff we met were very friendly too. Additionally, the park is E-Z on and E-Z off of the nearby highway.
These are all very good things when you are on the move and want a clean, safe place to stay.
So we would definitely go back to Hinton RV Park. Thank you for a very comfortable stay guys. You were great!!!!!
This RV campground is located less than 10 miles from the Oklahoma border. And we have actually visited this campground twice in the last year.
That’s because it fits really well into our travel plans each year.
Being located in the upper part of Texas, it is in the greener, hillier section of the state. Instead of the dry and flat area of lower Texas, which is a welcome change for us.
This RV park is also part of the Thousand Trail system, but once again can be booked outside of that system for about $69 a night.
They offer both 30 and 50 amp service and water and sewer. But please be aware that to upgrade to 50 amps you need to pay an extra $3 a day. This is true whether you are a Thousand Trails member or not.
But the campground is not age qualified. So it is open for use by families.
The park itself is very easy to get to, with well traveled roadways that almost any rig can navigate. Even the road to get to the park is well paved and easy to drive.
But, be aware that when you get into the park, the roads are not as well taken care of. The first time we stayed at the park, the potholes were really, really bad.
We had to be very careful while driving with our rig on them. But our second time through, we find they have filled most of the potholes, and that’s a good thing.
However, the roads would definitely be much better if they went the one extra step and repaved them.
Lake Texoma RV Campground Amenities
The park itself, we have to say, is just like the roads. It could definitely use some updating!
A little money being put into it would definitely make things much nicer. The bath houses and clubhouses have some obvious repairs that need to be done.
And although clean, these areas are showing their wear. The pool and laundry room seem to be in pretty good shape though.
Although the pool and hot tub are clean and well kept, the mini golf and playground area definitely need work. In fact, most of the amenities in the park are just a bit run down.
The RV sites themselves seem to be cleared of brush fairly well, and for the most part a rig can be leveled on them.
But there are quite a few campsites that are not being used and haven’t been for a while. So you can begin to see these spots having mother nature begin to take over.
Our Campground Impressions
As with most Thousand Trails parks, there does seem to be many annual and seasonal sites through the park. But all of the residents we encountered have been very friendly.
Depending on the time of year, the campground can be quite busy. Our first visit in June of last year found many more people in the park.
But in early May this year, not so many. Instead it was very quiet and peaceful.
One wonderful plus to the park is that you can bring your boat and access Lake Texoma privately. This can be done through the back end of the park.
And there are plenty of nice views from the lake that all will enjoy for sure!
The front desk personnel have always been friendly and pleasant to talk to when we arrived. And they respond to any requests or questions quickly and have made both our stays pleasant.
The Surrounding Area
The area itself around Gordonville seems to be able to provide whatever you require to make your stay pleasant.
There are two small cities about 30 miles from the RV Park. One is Gainesville, and the other is Sherman. We have gone to both. But we have explored Sherman more than Gainesville.
We know Gainesville has a Walmart and Home Depot right on route 82. It may have other stores also as we know it has many of the restaurants chains that you commonly see.
So I am sure that they support other grocery stores as well. But we know for sure that Sherman has a Walmart, Albertsons, Kroegers, and a Sam’s Club.
It also has many of the big box stores and both Home Depot and Lowes. And there is a Camping World in Sherman if you are in need of any of those kind of supplies too.
Restaurants Nearby Lake Texoma RV Campground
Lots of restaurants can be found in Sherman too. Most of the chain restaurants are there, but also some mom and pop places with very good food options.
We went to a place called MG restaurant that is located in Sherman. It has been around since the 80’s and is built on a 50’s theme and located in an renovated gas station. Very cool!!!!!
Burgers were great and their home made red velvet cake to die for. Reasonably priced too. Would definitely go again.
About 15 miles away is the town of Whitesboro. It’s a very small town but they do offer a local grocery store called Brooks Brothers.
And it’s not too badly priced for being the one and only in this area. It also has a McDonald’s, Whataburger, Pizza Hut and a BBQ restaurant.
But we thoroughly enjoyed a restaurant on Route 377 between Whitesboro and the RV campground called Catfish Haven.
The catfish was delicious, but what was really outstanding was the homemade pies that the owner’s wife makes. Some of her recipes are 100 years old. They were sooooo good. Thanks for a great meal, Catfish Haven!!!!
How About Internet Connectivity?
Of course, what we all want to know about RV camping is how about internet connectivity???? Well, the RV park only offers WIFI near specific areas, such as the clubhouse, etc.
So other than that you do have to provide your own internet. We only know about T-Mobile and AT&T which is what we use. And in this area, T-Mobile seems to be very sketchy.
Even our cell phones found it difficult to make a solid connection. But AT&T seemed to work just fine, so we were able to have good internet connectivity all the time.
Our Conclusion About Lake Texoma RV Campground
So the bottom line is, how would we rate Lake Texoma RV Campground? We would probably rate it about a 3 out of 5. Why?
The park could use quite a bit of sprucing up in many areas. And the amenities could definitely be better.
On the other hand, all is clean and it is a fairly central spot to enjoy the quiet and beauty of nature. But all the while it is still close to everything that would make your stay here comfortable.
So would we come back again? Yes. For us it provides everything we need.
We don’t require a lot of park amenities to be happy, so they don’t really impact us. But looking at this park from what many people expect in a campground, it could use a bit of improvement.
All in all it is an average park that someone would enjoy if they want a rustic, yet comfortable stay.
Timothy Lake South RV Campground is located at 2043 Allegheny Lane, in East Stroudsburg, PA.
This is a pretty campground located in the midst of the Poconos Mountains. And it also has a sister campground nearby called Timothy Lake North.
Both of these campgrounds are located in the Thousand Trails system. But as is the case with most of Thousand Trails campgrounds, it can also be reserved outside the system too.
There are 312 sites located in the Timothy Lake South campground. And it is tailored more for big rigs and people who enjoy a little quieter style of life.
Timothy Lake North has smaller sites for the most part though, and tends to attract those who like a more party style experience.
If you wish to reserve these sites on line, the last rate we checked was $97 a night.
The available campsites include either 30 or 50 amp electric, water and sewer. If you want cable or wifi, it is available, but at an extra cost.
We stayed in the Timothy Lake South RV campground, so this article is about our experience camping there.
We found the road to the park was definitely navigable but big rigs need to be a bit more cautious. This is because the roads leading to the park tend to be a bit steep, narrow and windy.
The roads inside the park were pretty good though. So we feel that you can definitely get around easily no matter what size rig you have.
If you have a bigger rig, just exercise a bit more caution because of some potholes and lower hanging branches.
The sites themselves were somewhat narrow but tended to be level enough so that even larger RVs could level out.
The park personnel were helpful and nice for the most part. But there was one particular middle aged lady there who tended to be a bit on the nasty side though.
She answered all your questions, but made you feel like you were bothering her the whole time. We were there during Covid and were masked and trying to social distance. But she kept backing up from us and trying to get away.
Not great customer service when you are trying to find out what is and is not allowed. If you re-asked a question, you could tell she was very irritated. So we tried to avoid her and talk to the other personnel, who were much more accommodating.
Timothy Lake South RV Campground Amenities
How about the amenities? Well, this tends to be an older park. And that means that all the bathhouses, clubhouses and laundry room could use a little updating.
They are all clean but a little money would be well spent bringing them up to date. We heard that they have started doing this in the North campground. But we did not use any of those facilities to verify that though.
Just an FYI, if you are staying at either of the campgrounds, you are able to use the facilities at both campgrounds.
We have to say that the pool at Timothy Lake South RV campground was very clean. And they also had a playground and shuffleboard area too.
Overall, it was a very pretty campground to walk around in. And the seasonal visitors seemed to keep their campsites up for the most part.
But what we enjoyed most were the beautiful deer that we would often see as we walked the streets of the park.
The Beauty Of The Surrounding Area
What really drew us to this area though is the incredible beauty of the surrounding area. There is plenty of nature to see, including gorgeous hiking trails and some phenomenal waterfalls.
For instance, there is a place nearby called Bushkill Falls. Of course, this is an attraction that you have to pay to get into. But the price is not outrageous and it is so worth every penny.
The beautiful falls and well kept trails are just a great way to spend some time in nature. You can relax and breathe in an area with pines and maple trees that scent the air.
There are also many other trails and waterfalls nearby that you do not have to pay for though. One that we really enjoyed was Raymondkills Falls. The hike was not long and the reward of the falls at the end was so worth it.
A nearby waterfall
This whole area is part of the Delaware Water Gap, and so there are many offerings like this throughout the area.
Shopping And Restaurants
What about places to shop and eat? Those are around too. In fact, there is a township not far away in East Stroudsburg that offers stores to pick up groceries, etc.
We also got a bite to eat at a diner on the main road about 10 to 15 minutes from the campsite called Mullers Diner. The food was good and the price was reasonable.
However, we really fell in love with a place in the township of Delaware Water Gap, PA called Village Farmer and Bakery.
It offered a hot dog and slice of homemade apple pie for $2.95. And you could take it outside to their picnic tables and eat right next to a little creek called Cherry Creek.
It was so relaxing to enjoy our inexpensive but delicious meal, with the sound of the water nearby. And we also took home some of their homemade goodies.
They had a farm stand outside the shop with delicious veggies that we took advantage of too.
The good news is that there are many other places around like this too. And the area has good places to get dinners that are more mom and pop style and specialize in certain cuisines.
Really the area has a great variety of restaurants for almost any taste. It appears that just about everyone should find something they like.
Internet Connectivity
Now for the last thing….connectivity. Well, this is a very problematic issue in the area. Everyone in the campground had a difficult time no matter what carrier they had.
It appears that the cell towers in the area get overwhelmed when they have so many visitors in the area. Soo they throttle you back at certain times of the day.
This seems to happen especially in the evening, and your connectivity is so slow it is even hard to get emails.
That being said, it does not seem to be the fault of the campground, but the area cell towers instead.
Of course, this is an irritation, but we eventually learned to work around it. Mostly by doing our internet activity during the day when internet speeds were better.
It is something that could be difficult to work with though. Especially if you have a job that is sensitive to having internet access over extended periods of time.
Our Timothy Lake South RV Campground Rating
So how would we rate Timothy Lake South Campground? We would give it a 3 to 3.5 rating.
Summed up… the area is a 5, but the campground itself could be given a little TLC. Some of the personnel could be a little friendlier too, and the connectivity could be greatly improved.
All the buildings and amenities need to be updated and the foliage could be trimmed up a bit. This would allow a little easier movement throughout the campground.
So it would not be our first choice to go back to, but we would return, especially if a few of these issues were addressed.
We truly enjoyed the Poconos area though!!!!!! We will always remember the beauty we were able to experience there!
